My name is Ash and I love to eat food. Seems like an obvious statement, I know, kind of like saying, “Hi my name is Ash and I breathe air.” For me, cooking is how I express myself as an artist and a scientist. I love the process of combining and experimenting with different ingredients to come up with delicious dishes that I can share with everyone. Food is love.

I started to grow a passion for cooking my sophmore year in college when I realized that there was no more cafeteria I could run down to whenever I was hungry. My first fail was a stir fry I made. I knew nothing about the smoke point of oils, the reason you really need a wok pan, the order you add ingredients to the stir fry, and how adding the sauce too early makes it burn. I remember that day because after I tried to eat my failed stir fry, I hopped on my laptop and searched "How to make stir fry" on Google. That was the first day that I found satisfaction in mastering a cooking technique. Despite many other kitchen disasters, a few burns and experiments gone horribly wrong, I made it to my 30s. And the kitchen is one of my most favorite places to be.

I’ve read 1000's of recipes, 100's of food related books and magazines, and I’m an active user of the American’s Test Kitchen online cooking school. And though I take pride in the fact that I’m mostly self-taught, my goal is to someday attend The Culinary Institute in New York City. A girl can dream.

My favorite dishes to cook are often modifications of traditional comfort foods (from many different cultures) that are really heavy and really fattening. I mean, I love butter as much as the next girl, but one wants to see their pants jump 6 sizes ;) I specialize in making soups, Italian, French and Mexican inspired dishes, and tasty hor d’oeuvres. My favorite way to eat is tapas style, experiencing many small bites and flavors in one meal. When I was young my mother would often do a smorgasbord of foods for dinner - my favorite!

Living in Massachusetts, I have access to some of the best seafood in the United States. International cuisine is right at my doorstep in Boston, and as a traveling sales person, I get to experience a lot of great food around the world as well. I consider myself to be pretty damn lucky :)

These are just some of my tasteful affairs. This blog is my attempt to put myself back on the food map in more ways than one. I hope you enjoy what you read here.

  • Cooking and anything about cooking makes me happy. My addiction to cook books, cooking magazines, cooking shows, cookeware, and cooking apps is a bit over the top. (But when you find what makes you happy it's not unhealthy, right? :) )
  • I have a really fat Maine Coon cat named Tobey.
  • I am obsessed with Volkswagens and I’ll probably always own one.
  • This video is me pretending to be a race car driver.
  • I love electronic music – even before it was the popular EDM popular genre. My first introduction to it was the Hackers soundtrack back in the mid-90s. I’ve been a fan girl ever since.
  • I used to be a professional photographer, but now I just do it for fun.
  • I enjoy traveling more than most things.
